Mike Scott - University of East Anglia, Norwich, Norfolk, England - 26.10.97

I wasn't really sure what to expect as the last time I saw Mike Scott there was just him and his guitar. This time however he had his "New Band" with him and the concert came alive and it was not a serene, civilised affair like the former occasion.

Mr. Scott's repertoire for the evening consisted not only of songs from his recent (brilliant) album "Still Burning", but also songs from his days with The Waterboys: he treated us to a blast from the past by performing the frenzied "Medicine Bow" and the beautiful and powerful "the Pan Within" but I don't recall him doing the renowned "Whole of the Moon".

As for his latest offerings, well, what can I say? They are more akin to the raw rock Waterboys' sound, before they slipped into their folk mode. Needless to say, I was not disappointed: "My Dark Side" has a pounding, driving beat which cannot be ignored but the best moments for me were when Mr. Scott performed his recently released singles "Love Anyway" and "Rare, Precious and Gone".

We certainly got our money's worth so far as quality and quantity were concerned.
