Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - The Boatman's Call (Album)

Year of Release: 1997

The Alternative Perry Como is back with some substantial tunes - an album full of love songs! Some are brimming over expressing undying love - "Into My Arms" and "Brompton Oratory" to name but two (I'm not sure though if there is more than one object of desire) but inevitably, where a spark once burned brightly, it must eventually peter out - "People Ain't No Good" and "Where Do We Go Now But Nowhere" make the point quite eloquently. The seedy, sleazy side of lust is also represented - "Green Eyes" sounds like the drunken ramblings of some saloon-swaying desperado and then there's "West Country Girl". "There is a Kingdom" is extremely similar to Lou Reed's "Perfect Day".
